Divi 5 WordPress Theme GPL
Divi 5 is the rebuilt version of Elegant Themes’ Divi, one of the most popular WordPress theme-and-builder packages. The new architecture drops legacy shortcodes in favour of cleaner data storage, makes the visual builder much faster, and loads assets only where they’re used. This Divi 5 Theme GPL download includes the original theme files.
Key features
- Rebuilt visual builder: faster, more responsive front-end editing with a layers panel for nested content.
- No more shortcode lock-in: layouts are stored in a modern block-style format instead of legacy shortcodes.
- Theme Builder: design headers, footers, post templates and archives for the whole site.
- WooCommerce modules: build custom product and shop pages with dedicated Woo modules.
- Responsive controls: fine-grained breakpoint settings for tablets and phones.
- Performance features: dynamic CSS, critical CSS and on-demand asset loading.
- Layout library: start from premade layouts or build from scratch.
What’s included
- The original, unmodified theme ZIP as released by the developer
- Instant download from My Account → Downloads
- One year of updates: download each new version from your account and install it
- Use on unlimited sites, including client projects, as the GPL allows
Not included: the developer’s licence key, their support desk, automatic one-click updates and any features that run on the developer’s own servers, such as Divi Cloud storage and Divi AI. GPL Download is not affiliated with the developer.
Requirements
- WordPress 5.8 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer
- WooCommerce for shop modules
How to install
- Download the theme ZIP from My Account → Downloads. If the download contains several files, unzip it and use the inner theme ZIP (its folder contains style.css).
- In WordPress, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme, choose the ZIP and click Install Now.
- Click Activate, then install the companion plugins the theme recommends.
- To update later, upload the new version the same way and choose Replace current with uploaded. Keep your own code in a child theme.
FAQ
What’s the difference between Divi 4 and Divi 5?
Divi 5 is a rewrite: faster builder, no legacy shortcodes and on-demand asset loading. Test older Divi 4 layouts and third-party Divi plugins on staging before migrating.
Do Divi Cloud and Divi AI work with the GPL version?
No. Both are Elegant Themes services that need an official account. The theme and builder work fully without them.
Will Divi 4 extensions work with Divi 5?
Many have been updated for Divi 5, but check each extension’s compatibility before upgrading a live site.

Yes. The GPL lets you use Divi 5 Theme on as many personal and client sites as you like. The developer’s licence key, support and cloud services aren’t included.
The current version on GPL Download is v5.15.1. For the full list of changes, see the developer’s changelog.
It’s released under the GNU General Public License, which allows redistribution. You get the same files without the developer’s licence key or support, which is why the price is lower.
